Matteo Leonardi

Italian fish farmers association - API

Italian, born in Tione di Trento on June 12, 1979, I am co-owner of the family business, the Società Agricola Troticoltura F.lli Leonardi s.s., founded in 1952. For over twenty years I have dedicated myself with passion and commitment to the development of the aquaculture sector, with a particular focus on innovation, sustainability and production quality. I firmly believe that collective growth, based on synergies and collaboration, is the key to facing future challenges, overcoming internal competition; with this vision my company is associated and an active part of the O.P. Astro (Producers' Organization), contributing to strategic decisions and development policies.

I have been a member of the Board of the Italian Fish Farmers' Association (API) since 2012, in which I served two terms as Vice President and in 2024 I was elected President.

Member of the national platform ITAQUA, which promotes the sustainable management of aquatic resources and fosters dialogue between institutions, operators in the sector and the scientific community and of the Board of Directors of Confagricoltura (national organization among farmers).

I was in the Steering Committee for the Fresh Water Trout Aquaculture Dialogue of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) representing the production sector.

As President of the Italian Fish Farmers Association, together with the members of the Board, I believe it is important to address the specific challenges of the sectors that Italian and European aquaculture are facing. The goal is to relaunch the sector and strengthen its resilience through collaboration with institutions, improving the quality and traceability of products and promoting research that can be applied directly in the field. I believe in particular in training activities for new generations and also aimed at the continuous training of professionals.
