The annual Eurofish Governing Council was held on 2 and 3 February at the Eurofish offices in Copenhagen. This session, the twenty-second, is the first in three years to be held face to face. The last two years have seen significant changes in the organisation. A new director was appointed last year, two new staff members have joined the organisation, and Eurofish has enjoyed significant success with its project applications, an important source of its funding. Activities conducted over the course of last year were reviewed by the members of the Governing Council, representatives from the relevant ministries in the 13 member countries (Albania, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, and Turkey), who commented and then approved the programme of work for 2023. Other tasks included discussing the benefits for the member countries planned for the coming year and reviewing and approving financial documents. The event was attended by 36 participants representing 24 countries and two institutions, FAO and the Baltic Sea Advisory Council. This year (2023) promises to be hectic. Eurofish was part of consortia that won four big EU projects in 2022 related to algae, consumer trust in farmed fish, reducing environmental impacts of freshwater aquaculture, and the European Market Observatory for Fisheries and Aquaculture Products. The work generated by these projects together with an increasing number of member country benefit activities mean that the staff count is likely to increase in 2023/24.
