From exporters to manufacturers, excitement is building as stakeholders across the aquaculture supply chain prepare for Seafood Expo Global (SEG) in Barcelona in April. Representatives from GLOBALG.A.P., a brand of farm assurance solutions, have announced that they will be hosting a panel discussion at SEG focusing on supply chain transparency in Europe and around the world. The brand’s aquaculture standards, which have been developed over the past two decades, encompass the topics of food safety, environmental sustainability, workers’ well-being, animal welfare, and supply chain traceability.
SEG attracts industry experts from around the globe and sets the stage for attendees to glean highly relevant and actionable information to overcome today’s challenges. The SEG conference program will feature educational sessions on corporate social and ecological responsibility, traceability, and transparency. The informative panel discussion on supply chain transparency hosted by GLOBALG.A.P. is scheduled to begin at 02:00 p.m. on 23 April and will be held in Conference Centre 5, Conference Room CC 5.2. Anyone planning to attend is encouraged to pre-register at the organization’s website.
Industry-wide perspectives for cross-sector collaboration
The discussion will be moderated by Eurofish International Organisation’s Director, Marco Frederiksen, and will feature a select group of experts representing a cross-section of the aquaculture industry. Panel attendees can expect to hear diverse perspectives from key areas of the supply chain.
The panel will include the following representatives:
– Audun Lem, Deputy Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division and Secretary of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI)
– Dawn Purchase, Aquaculture Programme Manager at Marine Conservation Society
– Teresa Fernandez, CSR & Sustainability Senior Manager/Seafood & Added Value Europe at Hilton Foods
– Carlos Tavares Ferreira, Sustainability and Quality Director at Stolt Sea Farm
– Remko Oosterveld, Aquaculture Key Account Manager at GLOBALG.A.P.
These diverse perspectives will highlight ways that all individuals in the supply chain can unite behind the common goal of promoting responsible, safe, and responsible aquaculture.
Discussion focusing on supply chain legislation and traceability
Frederiksen will be guiding the discussion through the headline topic of supply chain transparency in Europe, the EU and beyond. According to GLOBALG.A.P., the discussion is expected to address the impacts of current and pending supply chain legislation in the EU and explore the role that voluntary certification plays in encouraging good aquaculture practices at every link in the supply chain.
The discussion will also seek to outline a holistic approach to improving traceability by stimulating cross-sector collaboration, and will showcase how data-driven traceability systems, including traceability of compound feed raw materials like soy, fishmeal, fish oil, and palm oil, promote responsible farming practices. Benefits to retailers and consumers from improved supply chain legislation and transparency requirements will be highlighted. Furthermore, panellists will consider solutions for fostering sustainable production both within Europe and worldwide.
Working together for the common goal of responsible, sustainable aquaculture
The rapidly changing environmental and regulatory landscapes influencing today’s aquaculture industry require all stakeholders from across the sector to work together to promote responsible farming practices and to meet global sustainable development goals. This panel discussion will pull input from stakeholders of diverse backgrounds and allow policymakers and standard setters to hear real-world voices and stay abreast of current industry challenges.
The unique format of the discussion panel draws insights from across the supply chain and fosters the kind of collaboration needed for developing smart, independent, and effective solutions to promote responsible aquaculture now and in the future.
