The largest event held by the Polish fish industry, the Fish Congress, was recently held for the 4th time in Sopot with a record number of participants. Under the official patronage of the Polish Minister of Maritime Economy and with the support of Eurofish International Organisation, the meeting is the fisheries industry’s annual management conference. Organized by the Fish Market Development Association in Gdynia, partners included the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute and the West Pomeranian University of Technology. This year the conference gathered over 300 participants and included 50 presentations in the plenary and thematic sessions.
Opened by Tomasz Kulikowski, the editor of Fish Industry Magazine and Chairman of the Fish Market Development Association, the programme included a wide range of themes related to fish processing technology, the future of aquaculture, marketing and promotion, sustainable fisheries and certification, as well as to the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. The first day of the programme focused on the future of fish processing and aquaculture industries. The next edition of the Fish Congress will take place in April 2018 and the organisers are hoping for greater international participation and perhaps also a forum for fish processors from other Central European Countries.
