by Behnan Thomas

Following the recommendations given by four surveys developed under the First Spanish International Aquaculture Plan, EUROFISH organized two full days of business to business meetings during the Interfish 2010 exhibition in Moscow, Russia, 26-27 October. The event was organised under the Second International Plan for Spanish Aquaculture 2009-2010 supported by the General Secretary for Fisheries of the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs in Spain. This closed event included one representative from the Arpa Asociados, six Spanish companies, eight Russian companies, one company each from Latvia, Estonia and Ukraine, as well as two representatives from EUROFISH. The focus products from the Spanish side were trout, seabass, seabream, trout caviar and other Mediterranean species. Despite a tight schedule the meetings went smoothly and the Spanish representatives were pleased by the meetings outcome.

This event facilitated contacts between Spanish and Russian companies and eventually enhanced the future presence of Spanish companies on the Russian market. Furthermore, the event allowed the Spanish representatives to identify market and investment possibilities in the Baltic aquaculture sector, through the presence of the Estonian and Latvian companies.
