The FAO and EUROFISH organized a three-day regional workshop on the “World Trade Organization and fisheries” in St. Petersburg, Russia. The workshop was attended by 35 participants from 17 countries, representing mostly the governmental sector.
The aim of the workshop was local and regional capacity building in trade and seafood safety and so the programme focused on development of supply, demand and trade of fisheries products, the WTO Doha round negotiations on fisheries subsidies, development of trade and import tariffs, quality and safety issues, certification and eco-labelling of fisheries products, among other topics.
