EUROFISH made a study for the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) about the herring market in Russia. The study included a comparison of the past and present market situation for herring in the country, including Atlantic and Pacific herring, estimation of the overall herring market, development of catch and quotas, trade, including imports of Atlantic herring and exports of Pacific herring. The main factors and challenges affecting herring trade in Russia were described, such as logistics and distribution, financial and administrative barriers, as well as differences in the processing of Pacific and Atlantic herring in the fish processing sector in the country.
