ALMARS — Capacity building for Blue Growth and curriculum development for Marine

The project aims to enhance the marine fishery industry in Albania by implementing several tasks: The development of a new professional master’s degree in marine fishery that will meet market needs; Enhancement of collaboration among Blue Growth stakeholders through the development of a networking platform; Improvement of maritime training centres which provide professional training to seafarers on fishing vessels.

An EU funded Erasmus+ project that started in 2019. The project aims to enhance the marine fishery industry in Albania by implementing several tasks:

  • The development of a new professional master’s degree in marine fishery that will meet market needs;
  • Enhancement of collaboration among Blue Growth stakeholders through the development of a networking platform;
  • Improvement of maritime training centres which provide professional training to seafarers on fishing vessels.

The new master curriculum in marine fishery will be developed by scientific experts from the fields of marine biology, and aquaculture and fisheries in collaboration with marine industry stakeholders. The following activities are planned: creation of a networking platform which will unite all stakeholders active in the field of marine fisheries, from education institutions, graduate students, private business and organisations; improving the maritime training center for professional seafarers on fishing vessels, developing new basic and advanced courses for professional seafarers that are in accordance with IMO standards.

The project has nine partners: University of Split in Croatia (as the project coordinator), Agricultural University of Tirana, University of Vlora “Ismail Qemali”, Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Fisheries and Aquaculture Services Directorate, Tirana, AlbAdriatico2013 Ltd., Albamar and EUROFISH.
