The event was chaired by Alfonso Villares, Regional Minister of the Sea of the Xunta de Galicia, along with Roberto Alonso, Secretary General of ANFACO-CECOPESCA and representative of FUNPROMAR, and attended by representatives of the sponsoring organizations: Marine Instruments – Nautical, Hermasa, ABANCA, AON, and Canon.

Vigo reaffirms its position as tuna capital of the world

Once again, Vigo will become the epicenter of the global tuna industry, welcoming over 400 executives and industry leaders from more than 35 countries, including the U.S., Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Morocco, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines, the UAE, China, Australia, and many more.

The event will bring together companies that represent over 90% of the world’s canned tuna production. Spain—especially Galicia—thus reinforces its leadership as Europe’s top producer and the second worldwide, fostering trade relationships that drive sectoral growth.

High-level programme with new features

Unlike the previous edition, this year’s conference will feature keynote speeches by international experts, complementing the traditional debate panels and presentations, which will again include simultaneous translation in English, French, and Spanish.

The first speakers will be announced from April 28th, with a progressive reveal. Key topics will include:

  • Tuna stock updates
  • Value-added tuna innovations
  • Social challenges
  • Innovation and technology
  • Tuna markets in Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas

The ANFACO World Tuna Conference was first held in 1996, initially as the 1st European Tuna Conference. Its continued success has led to its expansion, reflecting the sector’s internationalization and the need for global dialogue on the challenges in tuna transformation and trade. Nearly 30 years later, it stands as an unmissable event for the international tuna industry.

The Conference also benefits from the collaboration of key international industry organizations such as EUROTHON, AIPCE-CEP, ANCIT, FIAC, ANICP, ANABAC, FEICOPESCA, ATUNEC-Ecuador, Peruvian Tuna Chamber, ORTHONGEL, ABIPESCA, IATTC, Friend of the Sea, National Fisheries Society, OPAGAC, and INFOFISH.

Undercurrentnews will serve as media partner, and additional support comes from the Xunta de Galicia via the Regional Ministry of the Sea, Eurofish and Industria Conservera Magazine.
