Pure Salmon has secured environmental authorisation for its planned 10,000-tonne land-based salmon facility in France, clearing another important regulatory step for the project. The approval, granted on 3 August 2026, follows a building permit issued in June and favourable assessments from the relevant environmental and public review bodies. The project, which will operate as Saumon du Médoc, is planned as a recirculating aquaculture system facility with an integrated processing plant. Pure Salmon says production will take place without antibiotics and will draw on operational experience from its Japanese facilities, which began operating in May 2026.
The company expects the French development to create around 250 jobs and contribute to domestic salmon production in a market that currently relies heavily on imports. Its feed strategy is intended to use fish-processing by-products as the exclusive source of marine ingredients for fishmeal and fish oil, rather than fish caught specifically for feed production.
